9 Signs of Eating too much Sugar. Know the bitter truth about the sweet stuff

Desserts aren't the only culprit! Sugar in a liquid form via beverages like sodas, energy drinks, and sports drinks is the largest single source of added sugar in Americans’ diets, according to the USDA. It comprises 36 percent of the added sugar Americans take in.

Think about how much easier it is to overdo it with an energy drink than it is to do the same with a bowl of ice cream, and you’ll start to realize how this works. Science even says so:

It's hard to feel as full from a high-calorie drink as it is from chowing down on the same amount of calories, according to research in Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

“The recommended dose of sugar should be in less than 10% of your daily energy intake. This daily 10% equates to 7 tsp of added sugar. Sugar is inarguably tasty and we all love it, but eating too much of it can have too many detrimental consequences.

In fact, just 4 g of carbohydrates = 1 tsp of sugar in your body. Watch out for the signs discussed above and try to cut down your daily intake of sugar. Find sugar in natural products like fruits, vegetables, nuts, or cereal” according to the World Health Organization.

Indeed, whatever exceeds in limit it will give bad effects. When it comes in our health, we should be mindful of what we are eating and how we consume the food, whether we could be healthy or illness will start.

Here are some signs that you might consume too much sugar:

1. Tooth decay issues

Tooth decay is caused by bacteria in the mouth using sugar from foods and drinks to produce acids that dissolve and damage the teeth. Most damage to tooth enamel is caused by acids produced by bacteria in the plaque using sugars as the main source of energy. The acid in the bacteria then penetrates the tooth surface and dissolves some tooth minerals, for example, calcium, phosphate and fluoride. When this occurs over several months the enamel starts to break down and cavities become present. This means, sugars are the main cause of tooth decay.

Protect your teeth by using fluoride toothpaste. Also, after drinking sugary or acidic beverages, don't brush your teeth right away. Wait at least one hour so your teeth can recover and your enamel can reharden before you take the brush to them.

2. Sugar and Immune system issues

Dr. Linus Pauling’s Forgotten Research says,
“Your body has a very efficient system for protecting itself from outside “invaders” such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, etc. The single most important part of this system is the body’s ability to identify and destroy any invaders that get inside”.

In the 1970’s Dr. Linus Pauling (one of the greatest researchers in the field of microbiology) discovered that vitamin C helps the body to combat the common cold. As part of the same research, Dr. Pauling found that sugar severely slows down this same process.

Glucose (sugar in its simplest form, as found in the blood stream) and vitamin C have a similar chemical structure. So similar, in fact, that when a white blood cell tries to pull in more vitamin C from the blood around it, glucose can get substituted by mistake. If the concentration of glucose in the blood goes beyond a certain concentration, the white blood cell’s 50-times vitamin C concentration can start to drop because of the large amount of glucose it’s pulling in as a substitute for vitamin C.

In fact, at a blood sugar level of 120, the white blood cell’s ability to absorb and destroy viruses and bacteria is reduced by 75%. This blood sugar level would be easily obtained by any normal person eating some sugar (cake, cookies, candy, soda or even drinking fruit juice). Further, it can take four to six hours for the vitamin C concentration in the white blood cells to reach that optimum 50-times concentration again.

To prevent from weakness of your immune system, eat more fruits and vegetables that are rich in nutrients and vitamins C and E, as well as beta-carotene and zinc.

3. Bloated problems

Sweeteners can also cause gas and bloating. Sorbitol, an artificial sweetener, can’t be digested. Fructose, a natural sugar added to many processed foods, is difficult for many people to digest. To avoid bloating, be aware of these sweeteners in the foods you eat and limit the amount you consume.

4. High Tolerance of Sweets stuffs

Are you eating almost everyday like cake, ice cream, chocolate and any food which is too sweet? If yes, your taste buds might not respond properly on how it really tastes because it’s actually used of it. It can lead to high tolerance in sweets and sugar level will definitely high too. If nothing tastes sweet to you, cut down the consumption of extra sugary additives, like refined sugar and sweet syrups, and switch to a well-balanced diet.

5. Gaining Weight

excess sugar consumption can spike your blood sugar out of the normal healthy range setting off a cascade of insulin ups and downs — often referred to as the “high-glycemic rollercoaster” — which can cause you to feel even more hungry, have mood swings, store excess fat, and worse, lead to metabolic syndrome (pre-diabetes) and even type 2 diabetes.

6. Skin Breakouts constantly

Sugar and other high glycemic foods cause your blood sugar and insulin levels to spike. That results in inflammation throughout the body - and puts you at risk or developing acne and other skin problems.
What’s the big deal with inflammation? The issue is that it breaks down collagen and elastin, two of the essential building blocks of your skin. These proteins keep your skin taut, elastic, and youthful. But chronic inflammation caused by excess sugar consumption damages both collagen and elastin. The result is deeper wrinkles, more fine lines, and the early onset of the common signs of aging.

7. Highs and Lows Energy Level each day

Brooke Alpert, M.S., R.D., author of The Sugar Detox: Lose Weight, Feel Great and Look Years Younger —What goes up must come down. After sugar causes an initial spike of insulin and that "high" feeling, it causes an inevitable crash. "Energy is most stable when blood sugar is stable, so when you’re consuming too much sugar, the highs and lows of your blood sugar lead to highs and lows of energy," Alpert says. Eating a lot of sugar also means it's likely you're not eating enough protein and fiber, both important nutrients for sustained energy.

8. Constant cravings

Sugary foods are addictive, giving us a quick 'fix' that tempts us back time and time again. Foods high in sugar have been shown to activate the reward pathway in the brain by releasing dopamine, similar to that of addictive drugs. The nutrient chromium could help to restore normal insulin function and supplementation has been shown to contribute to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels and to reduce sugar and carbohydrate cravings.

9. Sugar is a pain in the joints!

Sugar also contributes to joint pain and stiffness experienced with aging through a process called glycation. Glycation occurs when sugar bonds with proteins to form compounds called advanced glycation end products, or AGEs.

These compounds damage cells in the body by speeding up the oxidative process and changing normal cell behavior. AGEs are thought to be a major factor in aging as well as contributing to many age-related chronic diseases. Limiting sugar intake is a must for reducing the accumulation of AGEs that can lead to joint damage and pain.
