The “Big One” Earthquake Might Now Hit Anytime in The Philippines, But Are We Prepared?

Are we ready? This was my first thought when I saw that photo on the February 8 front page of the Inquirer.

Everybody knows that in the future, the “Big One” can also strike the Philippines.

The question is, will it occur somewhere in the mountains or strike a city such as Davao, Cebu or Metro Manila? If so, are we ready? That Taiwan case shows it is significant to hope for the greatest, but to assume the worst.

Earthquake drills regulated in schools are good, but are they sufficient?
We should change to what it would be like when power or electricity fails and there’s no internet connection.

We should not incline on our beloved cell phones but use common sense. Food supplies and medications at home are important, also emergency kits such as flashlights, batteries, and generators for those who can yield.

Torchlights to get the attention of rescue workers are not a bad scheme neither.

Nevertheless, the human factor must not be misjudged. People will attempt to use the needs of other people; there may be places without police forces that can cause to anarchy and chaos. The likelihood of epidemics has to be believed as well.
